Over the last year working for North Sails, I spent a great deal of time researching and developing two separate prototype Content Management Systems to support North's needs for public websites worldwide. After developing documentation defining users, business needs and specific functional requirements, there were at the time no reasonable alternatives in existing platforms. After developing the prototypes, enough advances had been made that it started to make sense to start with an existing platform and extend from there. As .NET was an existing platform in use, Dot Net Nuke was selected as a starting point. I contracted Embolden Design of Providence, RI to develop several key custom modules and to implement the platform based on my design and documentation. The end result is a network of sites based on a common theme but allowing for multiple languages, content syndication, tagging to help drive content updates throughout the sites and integrated media management and usage across the network of related sites. [The sites started going live during 2008. Embolden did an amazing job working with North to finally realize the vision of the global network of sites. Great experience working with them too!]
